Issue#177376: Linux - OpenSUSE 12.3 64bit - disappearing desktop icons

  • Hi,

I have a problem with OpenSUSE 12.3 64bit version. My dekstop icons keep disappearing after every reboot. To show them, I have to delete the current desktop activity and create a new one. After that, all my desktops icons are there again.

    What could cause this ?

    Thanks in advance :-)

  • Issue#495915: Ubuntu - No desktop and Loading Icons. . . Issue

I've recently installed Ubuntu 15.10 onto a virtual machine, however after logging in there is no icons or anything on the desktop, just the cursor and the background. I have looked online however am unable to find a working solution. I thought I found one here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/17381...o-dash-appears However after running this command "DISPLAY=:0 ccsm" The console becomes stuck on saying "Loading icons. . ." The actual machine itself is not frozen, it's just that it will spend hours on that without changing. The system specifications are: 2gb of RAM 12MB of VRAM 8GB of Storage The host's specifications are: 16GB of RAM 2GB of VRAM 500GB of Storage This shows that it is not an issue with the host, and should not be an issue with the virtual machine itself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Issue#794416: Linux - Fed 23 + KDE: once in few reboots desktop icons forget location

Hello! I'm running Fed 23 + KDE and I noticed the following strange behavior: once in few cold reboots the desktop icons "forget" their locations to which I dragged them before shutting down and become arranged in alphabetical order starting from the top left corner. The desktop view mode is "folder mode". The session which is chosed on reboot is the one I manually saved at some time. When I see the above behaviour I sometimes re-save the session after dragging the icons to correct locations (sometimes I don't "manualy save") and again: few reboots pass OK then again I get this problem. What I'm most puzzled by is the random behavior of KDE (Plasma?). I got used to LINUX being stable and deterministic with various location coordinates are taken from specific files, now I'm facing a random behavior. Any ideas as to what can be the cause of such a random behavior? TIA, kaza.

  • Issue#863176: Linux - [SOLVED] Mint 18 MATE-Text has disappeared from Desktop icons

As per the title. I am attaching a screenshot to illustrate the problem. All my Desktop icons are functioning okay including Firefox, Thunderbird, LO Writer, Terminal etc. It is just that I do not necessarily know which is which out of several LibreOffice Writer documents and other folders. Normally there is a line of text beneath each icon. I have installed Linux Mint 18 MATE on two laptops and they are both functioning perfectly, without this problem. This is my main desktop PC, so it is a bit of a pain really. I am pretty sure that the icons had text as usual just prior to me adding my second hard drive (drive2 for backup). It is very puzzling but I am sure that there is a simple solution. I am guessing that it is either related to mdm or X-Apps or MATE apps. Any suggestions? EDIT Just solved it! I decided to try changing the Desktop background and miraculously my icon text has now returned. How weird. Attached Thumbnails

  • Issue#905054: Linux - Video Previews on Folder Icons in openSUSE Leap 42.1

Hi With every new Version of openSUSE I had the same problem. No preview Images on the Folder Icons for videos. I eventually managed it every time to get the icons working but now, on Leap, I'm stuck :( What I have installed: ffmpegthumbnailer ffmpegthumbs kde-mplayer-thumbnailer libffmpegthumbnailer4 What works: Thumbnails of picture files on the actual file and on the folder icon containing the files. Thumbnails of video files on the actual file. What I want: Thumbnails of the video files on the icon of the folder containing the video files. Now my question: Has anyone solved this riddle yet? What am I doing wrong?

  • Issue#987815: Disappearing Desktop Icons for Remote Desktop users

Hello,I have a client with a terminal server that users remote desktop into.  A couple days ago users started discovering that when they right click on the desktop and sort, all of their icons disappear.  Logging out and back in will fix it as will restarting the explorer.exe process.  Also, the sorting does not 'stick' after they have brought their icons back by logging out/in or restarting Explorer. The great Google has not been forthcoming in finding others with the same issue.  Only 'fixes' I have found so far are to 'Show Desktop Icons' in the right click menu from the desktop, but that does nothing to bring back the icons.Wanted to see if anyone has run into this.PS.  I have tested with a brand new profile as well and it has the same issue. Thanks,Tyler

  • Issue#1060802: Linux - [SOLVED] Desktop Icons - Gone. Can't Open Folders

Hello, I have been using and loving Linux for 10 years now but I'm still a newbie so please help with detailed advice. I was opening some files on a NAS via smb when all of the sudden all of the remote files closed along with all of my desktop icons disappearing. Now, I can open any application but if I try to open a folder of any kind, the folder will open for a second AND for that brief second I can see the icons return to my desktop but it all clears after a fraction of a second. I ran a system update. I reinstalled nautilus since when I tried to run it in terminal it said it wasn't installed. After installing nautilus and running in terminal the same thing happened, icons appear for a moment then disappear. I'm running Mint 17.2 Qiana. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Craig

  • Issue#8272: Linux - MATE Desktop terminal transparency change?

Hi all, This is a relatively minor issue but I wonder if it's affecting anyone else. I run a desktop with CentOS 7.2 and MATE Desktop. After a recent reboot, I noticed a change to transparency in terminal windows. Basically, before this reboot/update, transparent terminals showed only the desktop background - which I prefer. Now, they show both the background and any other windows behind them (be it another terminal, a browser, etc). I see that I can choose a background option of "Background image" which is more similar to the old behavior, but then it looks like the image is created individually in each window rather than just showing the entire thing across all windows. My MATE versions are 1.12 (updated around Jan 19) and I get them from EPEL. Thanks for any pointers.

My company integrates Unity games into our native iOS app. Basically our iOS app would run the Unity code when a user decides to launch any of the games. With the past 32 bit of Unity and native iOS code, we were taking Unity generated Xcode project files, and compile them into a static lib for the native iOS app to use. Whenever the user chooses to launch any of the games, UnityAppController would be loaded, and ran. This worked well for us. But with the latest 64 bit builds, the same... • Issue#12464: Linux - Seagate Backup Plus Desktop USB3 external drive crashes kernel

Hi, I have a new install of Ubuntu 14.04.3 (kernel 3.19.0-47-generic). In this PC, I have a PCIe USB3 expansion card. Plugged into the card are two external USB3 drives. One is a Seagate Backup Plus Desktop, the other is a Seagate GoFlex Desk. Both are 3TB drives. These drives hold the backups from all the computers in the house, as well as videos and music. Almost 2TB of stuff. The intention is that one of the drives is a backup of the other. The Backup Plus was just formatted as ext4, and I am trying to copy all the stuff from the GoFlex to the Backup Plus. Writing to the Backup Plus causes a hard crash. Not immediately, but usually in less than 10 minutes. I can read the entire contents of the GoFlex without a problem. When the crash happens, the screen freezes. I have to cycle power to reboot. I do not see anything interesting in the logs after the crash. I can read the contents of the Backup Plus, either as a raw device or at the file system, without triggering the crash. It se

  • Issue#14046: Linux - openSuse Leap installer gets stuck or doesn't load

I have been preparing to perform a major upgrade and HDD replacement at the same time. While waiting for the hardware to arrive, I have been downloading and burning all the iso's that I expect to need. I have downloaded the openSuse Leap X86-64 iso twice and the boot from dvd fails at the same place each time. -checksums ok, -media boots and verify media ok when done in a different machine -openSuse 13.2 i586 DVD gets to the partitioning part of the install at which point I bail out. When booting from the Leap x64 DVD there is a green progress bar that runs along the bottom of the screen. It gets stuck when that reaches 100%. I left it for 20 minutes last night just in case it was a bit slow. Does any one know which point in the start up this or is there any way to get some verbose messages up on the screen so that I can see what is happening? At this point I am suspecting that something in my machine does not like 64 bit even though the CPU (Pentium D 820) and chipset (intel

  • Issue#29503: Linux - LXer: Distro or Desktop? You Say Both

Published at LXer: Inquiring minds wanted to know, so we asked. When choosing what to run on a machine — we’re talking computing machines running GNU/Linux here — what’s more important, the choice of distro or which desktop environment to run? We began asking the question among ourselves several weeks back when we were running our “best distro” poll and a few commenters observered that the desktop might be a more important metric for most users, since it’s the desktop that supplies the interface with which the user interacts. Good point, we thought. Read More...
