Issue#60: Tableau - How can I present weekly and monthly data on the same view?

  • This my first post.  I've searched high and low for a solution with no success.  Now I turn to the experts.


    I have three measures that I need to put on the same line graph: sales (monthly), contract values (weekly) and proposal values  (weekly).  I've run this set of data for over a decade at the monthly level.  Now the boss has asked that we look at contracts and proposals as a trailing 52 week average and 52 week sum.  We only invoice once a month, so that is as granular as sales gets.  When I try to plot the monthly data using weeks as the dimension, I get a stair step.  When I do a window sum, I get values that are 4-5 times the monthly value.


    I thought this might be a level of detail issue, but can not find any discussion of using it with dates.


    Any thoughts on how I get there from here?  Thank you for helping a neophyte.

    I was using the view data option and when I clicked on underlying, I would see what I wanted to. (The underlying raw data that the summary is referring to). But now it shows the entire worksheet, even if I "keep only" the record I am interested in and then view data If I change that 596 value to 2, then it will just show the first 2 rows, not the rows containing the 2 jobkeys from summary. It's confusing because this was working the way I expected it to like 10 minutes ago, I'm not even sure what I could have changed. Thanks!

    When previewing the data in a table/view in the data pane of a Data Source it would be helpful to have the name of the object being viewed in the title bar. Preview the table/view: ...and in the title bar put the name of the table/view that is being displayed: When looking at multiple screens of custom SQL queries and bouncing between table/view previews I will sometimes draw a blank as to what table/view I'm previewing.  This is particularly helpful when I get pulled away and return to what I was doing as I would know right away what it was I was looking at before the interruption.

    Hello,I am attempting to create a dual axis chart with a filtered and unfiltered component through the method suggested my michel cassie in the following thread: Can i have a Dual axis chart but with a filter applied only on one?  In the attached example workbook, I have attempted to remove the department relationship between the original and duplicate data sets in order to enable filtering the bars (original data) by department while leaving the line representing moving average of profits of all departments (duplicate data) unfiltered. However, filtering still affects the moving average.  Would anyone be able to take a look and offer any suggestions as to why I have not succeeded in producing a moving average line that is not affected by a department filter? Many thanks,Zach

    Is it possible to use User Filters to restrict access to specific data on a public view. We currently tend to create two views of our workbooks -one public the other internal.What I want to do to create one dashboard with a view that the public sees and then when a member of the organization logs in they can see additional detail. For example in the following dashboard I would like to restrict access to the Ethnicity and Plan data to an internal audience. I attempted to utilize User Filters, but when I do the quest looses the ability to see any of the table data. Although the construction is currently Hierarchical, I've also tried placing the fields in the workbook independently with the same results. Any ideas? Workbook: Enrollment_Maps

    I am looking for the best / most efficient way to blend or join a secondary data source which contains a master zip to territory mapping. Primary data source: (live connection tableau online) each row has a zipSecondary data source: (excel) master zip file with ~40k rows (all US zips) - each zip is tied to a territory I am looking to add the territories from the master zip to territory file as a filter. I tried data blending using the zip codes as a common field but I am facing very slow performance. Is there a better way to do this?

    Hi All, We are currently developing a customized usage dashboard for our business users. We are blending data using multiple data sources and both data sources are connecting to PostgreSQL databases. In the second data source we are using custom SQL which basically pulls the users who are in Usage and Admin AD groups. All sites contains corresponding Usage and Admin AD groups accordingly. Our aim is to provide the users logged in with their sites usage data. For example, user X is only part of site A and when he logs in he should be viewing only site A's usage statistics and if user Y is part of site B and C, he should be viewing both sites B and C's usage statistics. For the security piece we are capturing user login information using GetUserName() function. But we have a issue here with the Site Name filter. When a user X logs in, he is able to see only his sites corresponding data getting filtered but the site name filter shows all sites within the environment. we want to

    Hi All, I am working with two data sources and I need to blend some data fields from both data souses to create some dash boards. I did data blending but it does not give me correct results what I expect. I have attached a sample workbook by enclosing similar example which I faced. For your convenience, I have attached two screen shots of results what I expected and observed 1. This kind of figure I am expecting to have. In my two data sets one have 5 ICUs(A, B, C, D, E) and 3 for other(A, B, D) . But this figure shows 3 ICUs(A, B, D) which are in data set 1. But I need to show rest ICUs though those do not have data (C and E) 2. When I blend Data I observed this figure. This figure shows rest 2 ICUs(C and E) But failed to show discharge type correctly as in figure 1 when dragging discharge type into color shell Can anyone please kindly help me to getting this problem solved. I have attached my tableau workbook as well. I can work upto tableau version 9.2.

    I am looking for guidance to set up data from multiple excel spreadsheets to work well in Tableau. I am creating a high level overview dashboard for a network of 50+ schools. The dashboard will include around 30 different metrics housed in 7 separate excel spreadsheets.All 7 separate excel spreadsheets are normalized, have the same unique identifiers, these files are kept separate because their formats are slightly different and most important they are owned by different people that update them when data is available, some updates are monthly, others 3 times or twice a year. As soon as data owners update the spreadsheet, the dashboard should be updated too.  In my research, I learned about data blending and data joining. Data blending looked like a good option until I couldn't figure out how to control the dashboard with a global filter. Data joining has potential, except every time I experimented with this feature I noticed numbers changing in my dataset, specially in Levels

    I am facing one issue while aggregating the data from date to month rollup on data blending of two different sources. When I am rolling up data which is % based from date level to month level, It is not aggregating based on date at month level. See below requirement to get clear idea.  Month of Date opened, Day of Date Opened, Full/Partial & Percent impacted user are coming from EXCEL data source (Primary Data source). The Total User is coming from Google Analytic (Secondary Data Source). Whereas “User impacted by percent” is the calculated field created based on these data source. Here is the formula of User impacted by percent:  if SUM([Percent impacted])=1THEN SUM([GA (GA_Dataset)].[User])ELSE (SUM([GA (GA_Dataset)].[User])*SUM([Percent impacted]))END I tired ATTR in above formula instated of SUM(Percent impact) but didn’t help me.     Hi all -- Can someone please help me with this issue I've been having? I'm currently trying to join two different data sets together, but can't find a good way to do it. Please see below for what my two tables look like: In one table, I have a date and a return In another table, I have a date and expected average return for that date: Ideally, I'm just trying to calculate from the first table, what the Return - Expected Avg Return is for each date, so in theory it would look something like this: Then, from there, I would just do Return - Avg Expected Return, and have an average of that number for each date.     Hi everyone,  Wanted to see if someone can kindly review my workbook.  I am having trouble Data Blending two different tables to do a Travel Expense budget analysis comparing budget estimates versus Actual results.   In the worksheet tab called 'budget v actual (BLEND)' the values for Values_Actual are way off.  I suspect that this pertains to a blending issue regarding Dates.  In the Budget data source, a date calculation is used whereas the Actual travel expense data sources uses actual dates when the expense occurred. Any help is greatly appreciated as always!! - Dario  Attached is the workbook for your review.

    Hi,I'm blending two sources on a key which is fine and while adding fields from secondary source on to rows it worked fine until i added 2 fields..but after 3 field onto row...I see something weird behavior.. It is causing the first two fields in the rows to merge automatically separated by a comma. Not sure why it is happening. If i remove any one of the field from the rows then again the first two fields in the rows shelf which were merged are splitting again back to normal. Not sure why is that. Please let me know your thoughts/suggestions. Thank you.

        Hello all, I just want to begin by saying how much this forum has saved my job! Thanks everyone! I am having an issue getting my values to aggregate properly. I have attached two pictures below to help explain:BEFOREAFTERThe problem is that when I remove a dimension, the values are not aggregating properly. Each Facility and Cost Center should have 1 App attached to it and taking away Summary Pay type should not aggregate those Apps. Once I take away Cost Center, then they should begin to aggregate. I can use MAX() but then it keeps the same value when I get rid of cost center and I would want that to be Summed. The end goal of this is to track Dollars/App By facility and able to drilldown to cost center, then summary pay type and another layer of fidelity that I may add in. Thanks!

    I have a worksheet setup using two tables left-joined from a database.  If I look at the total number of users using this worksheet, the number of users is over 60 less than is actually in the database.  I have included a screenshot of the results of the joined worksheet as well as one that only uses the one table and gives the proper, higher number.  Can anyone tell me why the join would butcher this number?  Does anyone know how to fix this?

I’m trying to write a table calculation that sets a new goal for First Pass Yield that’s 50% higher than the previous high First Pass Yield monthly aggregate.
