  • Issue#73088: Booting problem Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3

Hello! Lately I have had great problems getting my desktop computer up and running in Cinnamon, when I start it up in the usual manner, all I get is the background picture, nothing else. At first when this problem occurred I could get it going after a few restarts, now it seems totally impossible. Changed to Mate, that seems to work normally. Something odd is going on, anyone had the same experience? Is there a way to solve this? Hoping for assistance, thank you in advance!

  • Issue#697535: Linux - Why Go Debian-Ubuntu-Mint-Cinnamon, When You Can Go Debian-Cinnamon?

I used Linux 20-10 years a go, and got away from it. I came back and have been using Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon for the past couple months. I don't know why, but I just love Cinnamon. I wish I didn't like it, but I do. Other then the "Desktop" settings arenÂ’t in "Desktop," and some "Display" settings arenÂ’t in "Display," I really like the set up. I'm using it for typical desktop use. I was thinking, Why do I need to use Debian-Ubuntu-Mint-Cinnamon, when I can use Debian-Cinnamon? Some might say, use the Linux Mint 2 (Debian-Mint-Cinnamon). The same question could be asked, why use Debian-Mint-Cinnamon, when you can just use Debian-Cinnamon? The one thing I don't like is, you have a really nice OS in Mint 17.3. OK, I have an idea. Lets take all the good stuff we created for it, update it until it works good, don't enjoy it, but lets scrap most stuff and go with totally different software in version 18. I read Debian doesn't change as o

  • Issue#1134097: Ubuntu - problem mounting USB drive on Linux Mint 18 from terminal

Hi, I was trying to install the video drivers for my PC and it got screwed up, so now I am trying to save some of the files, but I only have the terminal and cannot figure out how to find my USB drive. I have tried this method so far: Code: fdisk -l And then: Code: mount /dev/sda1 /media/usb But I am not sure if sda1 is the drive or what. It says that it is the EFI System, but there is no sda that tells me it is the USB. How do I find which one is the drive, and how do I make sure that it is the one? Thanks.

  • Issue#1138416: Ubuntu - Kodi full screen task bar problem - Mint 18 Cinnamon 64bit

Hi Sorry if this is the incorrect section to post this. Just started using Mint 18 Cinnamon 64bit and love it so far not touched windows for a while now. I've managed to move over all i do on my win10 install to mint and haven't looked back. There is an issue though, when i play my media from my unbuntu server in kodi on my second monitor (Samsung 40" TV") in full-screen mode the bottom task bar vanishes from the primary monitor. The TV is connected via HDMI on then second DVI socket using a DVI to HDMI converter from my GeForce GTX 460 and the audio comes from the toslink socket on ASUS P8Z77-V LX motherboard, both audio and video are perfect. If i put kodi into windowed mode and fullscreen it on the TV it plays fine but you have a kodi title bar at the top of the screen, this is less then ideal, you do have the task bar back on the primary monitor though. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere that will allow me to put kodi into fullscreen mode on the TV and retai

Dear all I am hoping to get some help with the following problem. I'm trying to get my laptop (Mint 17.3 x64 Cinnamon, Dell D830) to hibernate automatically after it's been in suspend for a while. I have tried various proposals and they don't work (namely, ideas here and here) and they don't work. I have kernel 4.2.0-25. My system works well in other respects (including suspend and hibernate). Also, the code Code: sudo pm-is-supported --suspend-hybrid && echo "hybrid suspend is supported" || echo "your system doesn't support hybrid suspend" reports that 'hybrid suspend' is available on my system.

Some things that get reset are: - Some windows configurations (Thunderbird usually starts in the Desktop #2, but when this happens it starts at the default desktop, #1). - It forgets the rules of the windows - Task bar / panel. Any idea how I could trouble shoot this? I like the cinnamon desktop but cant install any other version of Ubuntu (or Mint actually) as I have a piece of software (Matlab) that I cant get easily installed on this laptop.
